The Vancouver School Board is considering taking a second look at its policy that keeps school doors from being locked during the day.

This after receiving several calls from parents concerned about the safety of their children.

Following the recent events in Newtown Conneticut and the lockdown of Thunderbird Elementary in Vancouver, parents are on edge and want to be ensured that their children are well looked after.

We spoke with Vancouver School Board Trustee Sophia Woo, who says a meeting is scheduled for this coming Monday where the open-door policy will be reviewed.

"so the proposal we'll be discussing at the school board meetings to look at the current policy, see wheather we should consider locking the side doors during school hours."

The policy has been in place for 25 years and she adds it might be a challenge overriding it, but their number one concern is the safety of the children and staff.
