The City of Vancouver is pulling out its energy-saving program - after the program bombed from lack of homeowners' participation -  costing taxpayers more than $100,000.

An ambitious program voted in about a year ago by the city - encouraging homeowners to do enery-saving updgrades wasn't as successful as the City had planned.

Councillor George Affleck says he's not surprised the program failed.

"the NPA Suzanne Anton voted against going forward with this program and I support Suzanne's decision back then, I think the City of Vancouver shouldn't be getting into business arrangements or private sectors or loaning money or I don't think that's appropriate."

Affleck adds the City needs to be cautious with the public's money and any pilot projects should not be at the expense of the taxpayer.
