Almost five years after a man murdered his three children in Merritt, the federal government has promised more restrictions on people found not responsible for violent crimes.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the legislation after meeting with Darcie Clarke... the mother of the two boys and a girl killed by her former husband Allan Schoenborn.
"Once you become a parent, you see the world through a different lens. Given the love we all have for our children, one can not begin to imagine the pain and suffering. We can't change terrible things in the world. Terrible things are going to happen, but we can create a system that is reasonable."
Stacy Galt speaks for the family of ten year old Kaitlynne, eight year old Max and five year old Cordon who were murdered in their Merritt home on april 6th, 2008.
"My family and I call upon the entire House of Commons to join together to unanimously pass this legislation. That's what we want and that's what we're going to get I hope. Thank you."
Allan Schoenborn's next hearing to determine if he's fit for release is next week, but if approved, this legislation will be retro-active - meaning he could be hospitalized indefinitely.
