If you're spending the Province’s First Family Day weekend in the backcountry of BC's Southern Interior, the Canadian Avalanche Centre has a warning for you.

Karl Klassen with the centre says the snow pack right now, is in a state of change, after a very stable winter.

He adds the forecast is for sunny skies this weekend, and if the temperature goes up, so does the danger.

"Make sure that you have a probe, a shovel and a transceiver so that if something does happen, you've got the equipment to deal with it, many now using avalanche balloon packs as well, those are a good idea."

Klassen says to make sure you have the appropriate training for the route you're planning on travelling.

He also recommends checking avalanche.ca for updated forecasts before going out.
