The latest witness at the trial resulting from the fatal sinking of a BC Ferry seven years ago started the day talking about notes he took after he was rescued.

Keven Hilton was the second officer on the Queen of the North who took three pages worth of notes  in the hours immediately after the vessel sank.

He says the man now accused of criminal negligence causing death --Karl Lilgert-- told him he had limited visibility before the ship went off course, but Hilton says everything was 'normal' when he handed over control of the ferry to Lilgert.

He also says the weather had no impact on steering because the heavy rain in March of 2006 was typical for the North Coast.

Hilton must still be cross-examined by Lilgert's lawyer who is trying to prove the ship's new navigational system failed and his client is not responsible for the deaths of two passengers.
