The Harper government shut down the Kitsilano Coast Guard station on Tuesday, but today in Newfoundland, it has announced it's spending $6.6 million on a few buildings for the life boat station in Burin.
That station has been operating since 1973.
While promoting her new budget, the premier continues to speak out about the Kits bases' sudden closure, saying B.C. may be suffering because we are so far away from Ottawa.
"If any Member of Parliament from the government side would like a tour of our coast, I’d be happy to show them, and they can get out there and they can see how many citizens use it."
Christy Clark admits the only thing she can do to get the base re-opened is to try and persuade the feds their decision was wrong.
As well, St. John's Newfoundland will be the new headquarters for the new Atlantic region of the coast guard, which combines the old Maritime and Newfoundland regions.
