The official announcement will come Friday awarding the 2014 Grey Cup to Vancouver but while the spotlight shines on the city, no one from the city will actually be there.

The BC Lions have confirmed Mayor Gregor Robertson and members of city council were not invited to attend the Grey Cup announcement.

The Lions says the announcement will only feature the key players behind the bid namely themselves and the province.

For their part the Premier's office refused to confirm if Premier Christy Clark will be in attendance, or not.

The Lions do say the city will be a key part of the team down the road when it comes to planning for the game and of course for associated Grey Cup events.

The Grey Cup was last held in Vancouver in 2011.

The Mayor of Vancouver is taking the high road after being excluded from the Grey Cup announcement.

Gregor Robertson says what really matters is having Vancouver play host to the CFL's showcase game.

Robertson was asked if he feels snubbed after not being invited to the news conference.

"I am not worried about that the announcements are just the beginning and there is a lot of work to do to make it all happen and ultimately the success is when we actually host stuff and we get the big infusion of investment and support thats what really counts the announcements aren't what I am worried about.'

The Grey Cup has 'civic event status' in Vancouver and in the past the city has poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the game and associated festivities.
