BC Finance Minister Mike de Jong says there won't be any increase in tax credits for the movie industry, in the wake of today's announcement in Australia.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard says they will pay Disney 22-million dollars to film a new version of "20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" in Australia, because of the investment it brings.
The minister says BC is at its limit when it comes to subsidies.
"Well, we're at our limit for a couple of reasons. One, the question of how much taxpayers should pay to an individual sector of the economy. But we've also made the decision to balance the budget and when you do that, it forces difficult decisions. And that's all there is."
The latest Hugh Jackman movie "Wolverine" just finished filming in Australia, and it brought 84 million dollars worth of benefits.
It originally was to have been filmed in Burnaby.
