The Vancouver School District is about to take a look at possible cuts to make up for a ten million dollar deficit.

Trustee Mike Lombardi says when it comes to cuts the District is looking at everything "From reductions in programs, potential reductions in teachers, obviously program cuts, fewer resources in the classroom. You know looking at our operating budget all aspects from services to cleaning our schools, teaching, and learning."Lombardi says the process will be a familiar one.

"So, what we will do, as we do every year, our Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer will take a look at every item on the budget line by line and they will bring forward a series of proposals to us in the second week in April. And what we will do, is engage in a one month consultation process with parents, students, administrators, and the community and get their input on that."

Lombardi says the District has cut 100-million dollars of fat in the last ten years and is now down to the bone.

He says Vancouver, like many school districts, is the victim of unsustainable education funding from the Province.
