Five candidates from five different ridings met at East Vancouver's Rio Theatre last night to debate issues around around climate change.
Cariboo-North Independent Bob Simpson says the economy is flexible, the environment is not, "Bill Clinton ran an election on 'its the economy, stupid' we need an election run on 'its the ecology, stupid."
NDP Environment critic Rob Fleming says the environment is missing in action at the legislative level, "The last time the Legislative Committee on the Environment met: 1997. The last time the Aboriginal Relations Committee met: of the legislature, 1999."
Green Party Leader Jane Sterk on fracking, "We know that fracking poisons land. It poisons our air. It poisons our soil. It poisons our health."
A crowd of several hundred attended the event.
