Multi-Material BC has pitched an idea to Metro Vancouver Mayors to either reduce or stop entirely the curbside pick up of glass bottles and jars.
MMBC spokesperson Allan Langdon says glass mixed with other recyclable material is breaking and causing contamination. Langdon says Mayors were told, instead of being recycled, glass and other material end up in the landfill, "We believe we have made a compromise in amending our proposed approach to meet the needs of municipalities. I just don't understand why they would be opposed to it because they just didn't seem to give us any indication either way. They offered no discussion or comments about it."
He says they want glass separated and having people take it to a drop off depot is one way to do that.
