Clark: Times of India Film Awards about people seeing BC, not about ticket sales

Despite the fear of empty seats at tonight's Times of India Film Awards, Premier Christy Clark says it is important that people in India see our province.

It's not about ticket sales, it's about 100 million people seeing Vancouver and BC -- that's what Clark said Saturday at an event at Canuck Place Children's Hospice.

She says we need to reach out to India because they will not trade with us if they don't know who we are.

And Clark says, having India as a trading partner is huge.

"This could mean billions and billions of dollars and thousands of jobs in British Columbia once we get that door open in India."

Clark says she feels confident India will choose BC as a trading partner because she has a great product to sell.

She also says we can offer  the lowest taxes in the country, a triple-A credit rating, a balanced budget, a plan to eliminate our debt, and a highly skilled work force.

The premier says right now, the dollar value of BC's trade with India is surprisingly small.

This is something she says she hopes to change.
