In the wake of Sunday's horrific crash in which five died after a high speed collision in Surrey, local residents are calling for police to enforce speed limits along 176th Avenue.

Maria Lucarino lives near the area along 176th Street and says speed is an issue due to a big gap in traffic lights down that stretch.

"I would probably think maybe a couple more lights would probably be good, because it would slow people down, you know? Having more checks by police, having a police presence in that area, like doing some road checks, like speed checks, would probably be good too."

Lucarino says an increased police presence might not immediately make a difference, but if it was done over a consistent period of time, surely people would start to get the message that speed kills.
