The lead prosecutor at the trial resulting from the fatal sinking of a BC Ferry in 2006 has wrapped up his closing arguments telling the jury the evidence of the accused can not be trusted.
Crown Counsel Robert Wright has repeatedly said Karl Lilgert fabricated a story to hide the fact he wasn't doing his job when the Queen of the North ran aground.
The former navigating officer is charged with criminal negligence causing the deaths of passengers Shirley Rosette and Gerald Foisy, who's bodies were never found.
After reviewing the testimony of several reliable witnesses, the prosecutor says Lilgert's version of what happened, 'Doesn't make any sense at all' and 'It is not believable.'
Wright says no course changes were made, the weather was good and no equipment failures caused the ship to strike Gil Island. Jury deliberations start next week.
