The Township of Langley is making changes to its development plan thanks to the success of the new Port Mann rapid bus.

Mayor Jack Froese says the route is so popular the township is now looking to change the zoning around the Carvolth Transit Exchange.

Froese says they would like to change the zoning from commercial to residential.

"Staff took another look at the whole plan and what would best fit in. One thing that we want to have for growth in the regional district is to have transit close to residential, close to work. So right across the street we are calling it a transit village where we will put some high density and people can live right next to transit."

Froese says any new housing nearby would have to affordable.

He says Translink is also monitoring the Port Mann route to see if more buses are needed.
