A group working to get more women elected in Canada says the results of the B.C. election show we've come a long way, but have a long way to go.
Cathy Huth with Equal Voice BC says 29 women are heading to Victoria – 30 if Premier-elect Christy Clark replaces a man when she runs in a by-election – making more than a third our Legislature represented by women.
She says this is the highest percentage in Canada, but worldwide, the province and country are far behind, according to an annual ranking of elected women.
Canada is currently ranked 47th, behind countries including Afghanistan, Rwanda, Sweden and Nicaragua.
Huth says women make up more than 50 per cent of the population, so it's not unreasonable to expect a government that reflects that.
