The Mayor of Penticton, and new Liberal MLA for the riding, says he will stick to his word and foot the by-election bill for the city.
Dan Ashton says his "social conscience" led him to make the offer and he will make good on it as Penticton looks for a new mayor.
However Ashton says it is unfair to use him as an example for other civic politicians turned provincial MLA's.
"Penticton went through a bit of a rough road and through our core services review people lost their jobs and I said all the way along if the opportunity presented itself and I was successful then i would ensure that the people of Penticton were not hung up with by-election costs. So I am prepared to pay up to 35-thousand dollars for the by-election and I have been told we can do it for that."
Ashton is one of four mayors, and eight councillors, voted into office in this week's BC election.
