BCTF doesn't see 10 year deal in their future

As the BC Government promises to change the bargaining mandate to a ten year deal, the teachers union and the employer are returning to the table.

BC Teachers Federation President Susan Lambert says there is some concern the ten year deal could derail talks, "The term that we have proposed at the table currently is a three year deal. The idea of a multi-year deal is not something that is daunting to us. A ten year deal? That seems a bit far-fetched and unrealistic. I don't believe ten years can work. You can't predict in this day and age what is going to happen next year much less two or three years down the road."

Lambert says they won't sign any deal unless wages and investment in the classroom are addressed.

The BC Public School Employers Association declined to comment saying they have agreed to not bargain in the media.
