British Columbia continues to have the lowest rates of cancer among the provinces.
The "Canadian Cancer Statistics 2013 Report" shows the cancer death rate in B-C is 139.2 per 100 thousand population.
Low smoking and obesity rates along with healthier diets and better levels of phyiscal activity get much of the credit.
The B-C Cancer Agency is also mentioned for its integrated provincial diagnosis and treatment programs.
The report does predict some 9700 cancer-related deaths in British Columbia this year, down by 100 from last year.
Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths while the most common cancers are prostate in men and breast in women.
