The leader of the Federal New Democrats says the Christy Clark government is being prudent in rejecting the Northern Gateway pipeline.
Tom Mulcair says a government can't say yes to a project like the pipeline, because he says the Conservatives have "eviscerated" Canada's environmental assessment process.
"But right now, there's a company called Enbridge, the same one, that wants to reverse an existing line, but there's not going to be an objective, thorough, trustworthy evaluation of that. In fact, there's an interesting slip of the tongue you often hear from the Conservatives, instead of talking about an environmental assessment process, they'll evoke an environmental approval process which tips their hand to the fact that as far as they're concerned, the result is a foregone conclusion."
The BC government has said it is not in favour of the Northern Gateway pipeline as it is proposed.
It says Enbridge has not given any assurance it will be able to follow through with commitments it has made around preventing and responding to an oil spill.
