Hundreds of people gathered outside the Vancouver Art Gallery Monday evening to show support for protesters in Turkey.
Organizer Feza Sanigok says people in Turkey are struggling against oppression and the right of freedom of expression.
Sanigok says media inside Turkey have been silent despite mass arrests, violence, injuries, and at least one death, "I am not proud of it. I think it is very embarassing that Turkey probably has one of the highest number of journalists actually in prisons. In two years we have general elections so I think there are many opportunities for people to show their disenchantment and dissatisfaction with the current government."
The violence began over plans by the Turkish government to demolish a park to build a mall in Istanbul.
