The B.C. Chamber of Commerce is lobbying for reforms to what it calls the "abysmal" provincial sales tax.
President John Winter says he would like to see the province create a “made in B.C.” tax formula.
"(It) would enable us to be more competitive than we are, (it) would have a level of fairness within the context of who actually collects and administers the provincial and the GST tax systems – one that would enable British Columbia to grow economically at a time when we are now in a position where we are unfairly taxed."
Winter says the “value added tax” concept shouldn't be ruled out despite B.C.’s rejection of the harmonized sales tax.
He says the PST slams new businesses on startup costs.
