Police say animals and alcohol were common threads in two separate car crashes on Vancouver Island.
On Saturday morning, Mounties say a 21-year-old woman swerved to miss a dog on Cobble Hill Road on Shawnigan Lake.
She wound up in a ditch, taking out some trees and part of a fence.
Police are recommending impaired-driving charges.
On Sunday, three cars slowed to let a group of ducklings cross the Trans Canada Highway.
A fourth, fifth and sixth car then smashed into the vehicles.
That last car, a grey Honda Accord, ran over some of the ducklings and drove on.
Police later caught up to the Honda, reported to be hitting pylons on the top of the Malahat Highway.
The 47-year-old at the wheel is being investigated for drunk driving.
