On Sunday, the Vancouver Canucks traded goaltender Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils, in exchange for the ninth overall pick in this year’s NHL draft.
With that pick, the Canucks selected Bo Horvat, who played junior hockey with the London Knights.
This ends, at least for the immediate future, the goaltending controversy in Vancouver, as the Canucks juggled between former No. 1 Roberto Luongo and Schneider, who had emerged over the past couple of seasons as an elite netminder.
The club hinted via Twitter on Saturday that Schneider was on the market before executing this trade.
Fans will surely be surprised given the assumption from many observers that the Canucks were looking to trade the 34 year old Luongo and his mammoth contract.
