The BC Teachers Federation has a new president today as Susan Lambert's term comes to an end.
As of today Jim Iker is officially the teachers union's top boss.
Iker has a massive job right out of the gate as his members look for a new contract just not one a decade in length as mandated by the province.
"Well in fact it is not even on the table government never even, through the employer, put a long term deal. We are open to a longer deal. We have said that but a longer term deal needs the resources at the bargaining table and it needs to address some of our issues."
Iker says per student funding in BC is one thousand dollars less than the Canadian average.
Talks between the two sides are taking a summer break and will resume early in September.
