A group of concerned Coquitlam residents say they want city council to hold a civic by-election to replace two councillors who are now MLAs.
The group plans to hand out leaflets at city hall this morning, calling for civic votes to fill those two seats until the next municipal election in 2014.
However, Mayor Richard Stewart says the man behind the petition to do so has told him he wants to fill one of those council seats.
He says a decision on the matter should be made by councillors when they table the matter on July 8.
Councillors Selina Robinson and Linda Reimer both won ridings in May's provincial vote.
