Canada's big three cell phone providers are challenging the new wireless code of conduct announced last month by the telecommunications watchdog.
Telus spokesperson Shawn Hall says the company fully supports the new guidelines, which would end restrictive three-year contracts, cap data roaming fees and make it easier to switch to a new provider.
Hall says they're just looking to clarify one aspect.
“By stating that the code comes into force for all contracts on June 3 of 2015, they've effectively made the code retroactive to June 3 of 2012 for any services we have for customers on a three-year term. And so we're seeking clarity on that one aspect of the code. Overall, we support the code."
A Vancouver-based public interest group, Open Media, however, says the companies are trying to overturn and delay putting the guidelines into practice.
