In the wake of massive floods in Alberta and the deadly train derailment that rocked Lac-Megantic, Que., the mayor of Vancouver is expressing confidence this city is equipped to deal with a catastrophe.
Gregor Robertson says this city's main concern is a potential earthquake.
And while he says there's still work to be done, Robertson feels the personnel are in place to manage large scale disasters.
"The earthquake challenge is number one for us. A lot of preparation on earthquakes, and a lot of work still to do on the seismic upgrades for buildings around the city, but we've got a good head start on it."
Robertson says people have to be proactive in making their own preparations as well.
