As investigators continue to look at the plane wreckage from a weekend crash in San Francisco, officials at Vancouver’s airport say they are prepared as much as possible for a similar event.

Vice-president of operations Steve Hankinson says YVR staff held a massive emergency drill back in April, featuring a simulated plane crash and victims on both land and air.

Hundreds took part, including 30 first responder agencies from across the Lower Mainland.

He says they will learn from the SFO crash.

“As the (National Transportation Safety Board) will conduct its investigation and make recommendations, we will look closely at their report and recommendations and adopt what we need to at Vancouver to ensure we are a safe airport.”

The last crash at YVR was on Oct. 27, 2011, when a small charter plane crashed short of the runway onto a road. The two pilots later died.
