The first annual report from BC's Independent Investigations Office shows more than 200 serious incidents have been reviewed by the province's independent watchdog for police.
The inaugural report covers a period between January of last year and March of this year with a focus on when the agency became fully operational September 10th.
Chief Civilian Director Richard Rosenthal says, since then, he's received 233 notifications of officer-involved incidents --of which 17 were investigated.
They involved nine deaths and eight cases of serious harm.
Rosenthal says six investigations were completed before march 31st with the average probe lasting less than three months.
The IIO was implemented after recommendations were made by the heads of two public inquiries which examined the deaths of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski in 2007 and Frank Paul in 1998.
