Construction on the new Lakeland Mill gets going today in Prince George.

An explosion and fire in April last year flattened the facility, leaving two dead and 24 hurt.

Mayor Shari Green says while the community still mourns for the victims, getting 100 workers back on the job is part of the process of moving forward.

"It’s great to see people back to work and I think that the community has just had such an outpouring of support and enthusiasm today that we are finally moving forward. Certainly we've been impacted by the death of two people and so many people that were injured, but as time has moved forward, we're ready to get going and see the construction and see that mill running again."

Provincial investigators continue to examine what went wrong the day of the fatal explosion.
