Bear welfare group says homeowner habits need to change

They may be covered in fur, but Metro Vancouver's warm weather isn't making the bears hide out in the shade. 

"There are a couple of bears that are about to be taken out, unless we can get some improvements."

Tony Webb with the North Shore Black Bear Network says up to 20 bruins have been spotted recently...including one chasing down a garbage truck.

"It's because people are sort of not managing their attractants properly. Nothing wrong with a bear walking down the street, but if you have attractants, don't forget their sense of smell is about seven times greater than that of a bloodhound dog."

Webb says too many residents are still putting their garbage out for pick-up too early.
