The City of Vancouver is showing off a new, green material to pave our streets.
The city is experimenting with a new blend of asphalt as it paves a stretch of Kingsway near Slocan.
General manager of engineering services Peter Judd says the asphalt is mixed with plastic from items in household blue bins.
"It’s a real win, win, win. One, you save on greenhouse gases, you're putting to use materials out of the blue box system, and you're actually reducing the amount of vapour that's emitted into the air from the asphalt because it's cooler as well."
He adds this new method brings the city one step closer to becoming the greenest city in the world.
