The RCMP are pitching themselves as the better, cheaper policing option as Richmond looks at alternatives.
Inspector Ted De Jager says the RCMP cost 34-percent less per capita, and six-percent less per member than a municipal force.
While Mayors have concerns like cost containment, De Jager says the new RCMP deal has a Contract Management Committee to address those issues, "If the Mayors and Council have concerns over the contract, there is a mechanism for them to express that. We certainly have the impression that Richmond has been happy with our service but again, we are completely commited to ensuring that we communicate that and we are accountable to them."
The Mounties have handed Richmond Council a report called The RCMP Advantage as the city looks at its policing options.
