BC's Health Minister has accepted complete responsibility for resolving ongoing problems at Burnaby Hospital.
This, as a new report details overcrowding, lack of resources and unequal treatment at the facility.
Margaret MacDiarmid says she'll meet with Fraser Health officials in the next few weeks to discuss the report.
Speaking with CKNW's Bill Good, she says she knows the aging hospital needs to be replaced and adds some short-term work is already underway.
The report, from a consultation committee chaired by Liberal MLA Harry Bloy, includes how Burnaby staff want to get the same funding and resources as other hospitals in the region.
The New Democrats claim leaked emails suggest members of the committee tried to shift blame away from the Liberal government.
Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan says it's good MacDiarmid has now assumed responsibility because her government has ignored long-running problems.
However, Burnaby general surgeon Doctor John Warner says no one should look at this report from a partisan perspective.
"We just want a better care facility for everybody in Burnaby."
Warner was one of several doctors who wrote an open letter earlier this year detailing problems at the 60-year old facility.
