A helicopter is set to launch later this morning to help retrieve a snowboarder stuck since yesterday on Cypress Mountain.

The boarder has been stuck overnight out on Hollyburn on the west side of Cypress after going out of bounds.

North Shore rescue members had been waiting for the sky to clear to send up a helicopter, and plan to dispatch a ground crew if the avalanche risk has lessened.

"He is alive, and he's safe right now. We believe he's in Montizambert Creek."

Team leader Tim Jones says they last had contact with him via cell phone around 3:30 a.m., adding he'll most likely have hypothermia when they finally get to him.
