Premier's Office says Doyle decision not political

BC'S opposition leader, Adrian Dix, is blaming the ruling government's refusal to listen to critics for a controversial decision to fire Auditor General John Doyle.

"It makes no sense for the public to remove an Auditor General who's done an outstanding job. It makes no sense to spend additional money."

Dix has promised to put politics aside if BC's financial watchdog is re-appointed, but the Liberal MLA heading up the committee responsible, Eric Foster , is accusing Dix of playing games.

"Mr. Dix is making a little politics out of, out of a personnel issue, as he will do and you know, the committee's decision was not to re-appoint and that's sort of the end of it."

Ben Chin with the Premier's office also insists this decision was not politically-motivated.

"There's no change to the existence of an AG or his or her office and their role We're talking about something that happens at the end of terms on all, but two occasions, so that's the important thing to remember."

Premier Christy Clark is not available to comment because she's still on vacation.
