The Metro Vancouver company awarded an eight-billion dollar shipbuilding contract by the federal government has started hiring.
The President of Seaspan Shipyards, Brian Carter, says 35 senior positions have been filled in the last 11 months.
"Technical shipbuilders, engineers, planners, program managers. We'll hire another 35 people in 2013 and then, in early 2014, we'll begin to ramp the production workforce at Vancouver Shipyard from about 250 which we are today --gradually up to one thousand in mid-2016."
Carter says potential employees have been inquiring about jobs from across the country, but most of the interest has been local.
