Surrey has now seen five murders this month.

But the man in charge of the local RCMP detachment says his message to residents remains the same.

Chief Superintendant Bill Fordy says based on the facts of this latest killing, his position hasn't changed.

"That, the vast majority of the citizens that live in Surrey are law-abiding people, and that people who choose to engage in a criminal lifestyle, whether that's in Surrey or any other region in the Lower Mainland, it is unsafe and the potential exists for you to either end up in jail or unfortunately deceased."

The integrated homicide investigation team is in charge, after a man's body was found Monday on the side of Colebrook Road.

Four other men have been killed this month in Surrey, two of whom had gang ties -- prompting Fordy to put out a statement about the dangers of gang life.

He adds Mounties decide case-by-case whether to warn the public about certain people or places.
