Vancouver's Mayor is calling for provincial and federal help to clean up the Fraser River and the Pacific in order to improve access to local seafood.
Gregor Robertson says local food is not just what grows in the ground, in Vancouver's case it also comes from the sea.
Rrobertson says federal funding is needed to upgrade sewage plants to limit discharge into the waterways.
"We have seen improvements in recent years with herrings and whales coming back into Burrard Inlet but we have to keep advancing and making sure we restore a food supply that used to be very significant locally."
He says there are provincial and federal jurisdictions to consider when it comes to the Fraser and the Pacific.
