It took nine hours and went until 3:30am, but in the end the Vancouver Park Board voted to back a controverisal policy to centralize community centre services.
All five Vision Commisioners voted for while the two NPA members voted against.
One of them Melissa De Genova who said it is a cash grab, that will become policy.
And she says, "I think that they will ram it through it all costs because they have their eye on the cash and they see that the community centres generate a lot of cash."
Vision Commissioner Niki Sharma says that is not true, "there is some misinformation about our goals we arenot...our goal is not to grab money or to remove volunteer boards from the Centres."
An angry crowd forced two recesses to try restore calm, and Vancouver Police were even called in.
The people left standing after the marathon meeting at the West End Community Center, left angry.
Attendees were unhappy with the long meeting which saw some of the 73 scheduled speakers go home before it was over.
"I think it would have preferrable to adjourn the meeting at an earlier time and had another date....I am not very happy with it......They just showed that they really didn't really care.....The entire process has been rushed and there defintely needs to be more consultation on it."
Almost 50 speakers did make it to the mic with the vast majority telling the Park Board they are opposed to centralizing community centre services.
Meanwhile, the the community centres issue could wind up in City Council chambers.
Green Party Councillor Adrianne Carr says she is worried the Park Board move might have an impact on Vancouver taxpayers.
She says, "the purpose of my motion is to make sure that at the City Council table which is where we are responsible for the City's budget, we know the potential financial impacts of the Park Board's plan to centralize the control of community centres out of the hands of the Community Centre Associations."
Carr says those associations pay for a lot of things which taxpayers might end up being on the hook for.
She will table her motion February 12th.
