The provincial government has announced it will adopt all of the recommendations aimed at BC in the Cohen commission report on the decline of sockeye salmon in the Fraser River.
Last October the commission made 75 recommendations to better protect Fraser sockeye, and today the provincial government says it will act on all eight that were aimed at BC, or at least, the intent of those recommendations.
Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick says that includes a ban on new or expanded net pen fish farms in the Discovery Islands, which are along the migratory path of Fraser River sockeye.
"But we're not going to entertain any increasing in size of tenures that will result in increased production."
Letnick says the province will also introduce a new water sustainability act next year with an eye to better protecting habitat.
