The BC Liberal Government is pledging to spend another chunk of change ahead of the May election -- this time to improve palliative care.
Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid says $8 million will go to improve four hospices in Vancouver and White Rock, while another $2 million will fund a centre of excellence.
She says the funding was requested three years ago, but the province wasn't able to provide it until now.
"It's about priorities, for sure. At the end of the year in the health budget, there's always a little bit of room. The health budget, as you know, is over $16 billion, and it's never expended completely, fully. And so, close to the fiscal year end, we often have a little bit of ability to fund some things and this was something the provincial government really had as a priority."
The minister's announcement today also included an action plan for end-of-life care, aimed at standardizing the level of care around the province.
