Last month inflation numbers made the largest increase, nationally, in 22 years.
Statscan analyst Jeffrey Peter says the cost of some specific goods and services were behind the surge.
"Gasoline prices rose 8.4% following a point-one percent decline in January. Consumers also paid more for personal passenger vehicles, prices for clothing and footwear increased, there were fewer discounts observed in February compared with January, and food prices also increased on the month."
Peter says if you take some seasonal factors out of the equation then inflation only increased 0.5%.
the annual inflation rate went from 0.7% up to 1.2% last month.
In BC inflation reached 0.9%. "Similar story in Canada and BC on the month it is gasoline, and the purchase of passenger vehicles, food, and clothing, and footwear."
StatsCan says inflation rates also rose in Vancouver and Victoria.
Inflation in Vancouver is now 1.2% up from 0.5%.
in Victoria it is 0.7% up from 0.1%.
