It looks like the Vancouver Canucks won't be calling the Windy City home for their AHL farm team, the Chicago Wolves, much longer.
The Canucks have bought the Peoria Rivermen from the St. Louis Blues.
In a release the team says the move is an important step to assume full control of minor legue development of its players.
The move will also restart all those rumours that the Canucks farm club will end up calling Abbotsford home while the money losing Heat franchise head out of town.
The release in full is below.
Canucks Sports & Entertainment announced today that the organization has agreed to purchase the Peoria Rivermen franchise from the St. Louis Blues.
The transaction is subject to approval by the American Hockey League.
"This is an exciting opportunity for the Canucks,” said Canucks Sports & Entertainment Owner and Chairman, Francesco Aquilini. “The purchase of the Peoria franchise allows us to take an important step and assume full control of our minor league development program.”
Out of respect for the AHL approval process the Canucks and Blues will not have further comment at this time.
