A Chilliwack mother says it's a big weight lifted off her shoulders, now that the country's top court has ruled against the doctor who botched her daughter's birth.
Carolyn Ediger says she was up early this morning to read the judgment on her IPad.
"When we scrolled all the way down to the end and realized that they had found in favour for Cassidy, we were thrilled."
The Supreme Court of Canada upheld the family's case against a doctor after Cassidy Ediger was born in 1998 with permanent brain damage.
Cassidy is now 15, in a wheelchair, and fed through a tube.
"She had a smile on her face. I'm not sure to what extent she fully understands, but she certainly could tell that we were happy."
Carolyn says she can now afford better care for her daughter.
"It's a wonderful place to have peace of mind, knowing that you can provide for your children."
The family was awarded 3.2 million dollars.
