Metro Vancouver's Environment Committee has taken what it calls a political stance on exporting coal.
Chair Heather Deal says the committee wants to learn more about the health and environmental impacts of coal. But Deal says after tossing it around for awhile they choose to take the issue one step further, "We actually are stating our opposition to any coal being exported from the Fraser River estuary, which is not the entire region. But the Fraser River estuary, aside from the Delta Port, which already exists, because of the ecological sensitivity of the estuary."
Deal says the committee recomendation will now go to the Board of Metro Vancouver for a decision.
