The Leader of the NDP is playing down concerns unions and environmental groups will stand to gain from an NDP Government. On The Voice of BC with Vaughn Palmer, Adrian Dix says the NDP platform won't make everyone happy, "There are going to be some supporters of mine who are going to be disappointed; who say that is not enough and that is just the way it is going to be. I think you have to, if you want to bring change, focus on a few things at a time. You can't have every agenda item going on all the time."
Dix says trying to do it all was one of the problems of the NDP Government of the '90's.
While we haven't seen the full NDP platform yet, the party leader is confirming it won't contain a plan for affordable child care.
Dix was asked if his party will help table a plan for 10-dollar-a-day child care, "Yes, we need to move on issues of child poverty, and issues of child care. We are not going to be in a position to afford that. If you look at the size of the program, 1.5 to 2 billion, and you see what we proposed in our platform, you will see that one is larger than the other. We are not going to be able to proceed with that."
Dix says there are still avenues to improve child care. However, he says it will require help from all levels of government and right now the Harper government is not willing to play ball.
