The Vancouver Art Gallery is now one step closer to moving to a new location at Cambie and Georgia.
But what's going to happen to the old courthouse once its tenant moves out?
Councillor Heather Deal says the city wants to keep the space cultural.
"We have already had quite a few expressions of interest from various organizations, such as the Museum of Vancouver, to come downtown and use that space or part of that space in conjunction with other organizations. So we will have a public consultation process around and then we will entertain proposals. But it will continue to be of cultural use in the heart of the city."
The Asia Pacific Foundation and UBC are rumoured to be eyeing the iconic building as well.
Deal is quick to point out it will not be demolished.
City staff have recommended the parking lot at 688 Cambie St. for the gallery’s new home.
Council will vote on it next week.
