Six hikers have been airlifted to safety after they took a wrong turn en route to Grouse Mountain Tuesday evening.   The trail runner/hikers all in their 20's were travelling along Hanes Valley heading for Grouse Mountain when they took a wrong turn and ended up stranded in Crown Creek.

Tim Jones with North Shore Search and Rescue says they weren't equipped for the cold, snowy conditions, "In summertime it's a moderate route to follow but the way they were equipped they could have done it in the later months of July and August. However, it's winter conditions back there and they quickly ran into trouble."

The hikers called 911 from a cell phone and they were pulled to safety by a helcopter just before night fall.
